A 37-year-old Tennessee man believed to be involved in a “huge” organized retail crime scheme was arrested after police recovered an estimated $5 million worth of stolen Nike products from a Hawthorne warehouse, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
Authorities in a Monday statement said investigators executed a search warrant on Saturday, Jan. 27, at an undisclosed warehouse in Hawthorne, where the suspect was reportedly seen delivering stolen merchandise. Police, along with supply chain investigators and Nike’s global security director, found thousands of products including stolen clothes, shoes, accessories and unique prototypes, officials said.
A second search warrant was executed in Hollywood, though no additional details were released.
A police statement said the suspect was “involved in huge Organized Retail Crime” and is believed “responsible for receiving, redistributing and reselling a high dollar amount of stolen property.”
The suspect, identified as Roy Lee Harvey Jr., was charged with 27 felony counts of receiving stolen property. Harvey, who as of Wednesday was out on bail with an ankle monitor, was believed to be working with out-of-state accomplices, Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office spokesperson Venusse Dunn said.
The investigation is ongoing. Police did not provide details on how the products were stolen or where they were being sold.
