What is a XC90? The XC90 is a 3 row midsize luxury SUV built in the Torslanda, Sweden assembly plant and sold worldwide by Volvo. The XC90 is Volvo’s largest and safest vehicle they build, and is a solid and stylish choice in the midsize 3 row luxury SUV class. It seats 7 people inside a well designed, high quality, very nice interior.

One of the best things about the 2024 Volvo XC90 is the power train. It comes with a 4 cylinder hybrid gas engine with an electric motor that combined has 455 horsepower and 523 lb-ft of torque. It’s a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) with a 18.8 kWh extended range battery that goes 33 miles on a full charge. The gas engine gets 27 MPG and the overall fuel economy rating is 58 MPGe. The charging time is 5 hours on a 240 volt charger and the total gas and electric driving range is 530 miles. The greenhouse gas rating is a 7 and the smog rating is a 7; both out of 10. These are excellent numbers all around.

This week Volvo sent me a 2024 Volvo XC90 Recharge SUV to test drive and review. The base window sticker for this Ultimate AWD edition is: $79,600. The XC90’s best qualities are its flexible and comfortable interior, and the long list of safety, tech, and luxury features. As a PHEV it can drive up to 33 miles on a fully charged battery. As average daily driving distance is between 25 to 30 miles a day, you can charge up the car at night, drive it all day long as an electric vehicle with zero emissions and still go to Lake Tahoe and back on a full tank of gas.
