What is a XM? The XM is an all new luxury high performance full size SUV built in the Spartanburg, SC, USA assembly plant and sold worldwide by BMW. Slotting above the 3 row X7 in BMW’s SUV lineup, the XM is a 2 row high performance SUV with big power. The price for the 2024 BMW XM Red Label starts at $185,000 and it’s loaded with luxury features that include a full leather interior, 22″ wheels, a curved infotainment digital dashboard, a full range of driver assistance, safety, power and tech features.

The XM Red Label edition is powered by BMW’s twin scroll M twin turbocharged 4.4 liter 32 valve V/8 gas engine. It has cross bank exhaust and an integrated electric motor, bolted to an 8 speed M Sport transmission, with drive logic and launch control. The hybrid electric motor gives this plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) drivetrain an extra 150 HP, for a total of 738 horsepower (HP) and 738 lb-ft of torque. The top speed is 175 MPH. It weighs 6,062 pounds and it goes from 0 to 60 MPH in just 3.7 seconds or less.

This week BMW sent me a 2024 XM PHEV SUV to test drive and review. The base window sticker price for this Red Label edition is $185,000. The options on the XM are: the Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system for $3,400, the turbo cord charger for $250 and the M drivers’ package for $2,500. The manufactures suggested retail price (MSRP) including the $995 destination charge, minus the NEMA $250 adapter credit, is: $191,895. After adding in the state and local sales tax, plus the DMV and dealers fees, the out the door and in your garage total purchase price came to a whopping $215,882.

At nearly $216,000, this BMW checks all the boxes for an Ultra High Performance Luxury vehicle. It has 738 HP, a 175 MPH top speed, goes 0 to 60 in fewer than 3.7 seconds, with a price tag over $215 Grand. For buyers in the $200,000 purchase price class, being very exclusive is a very high priority and this XM Red Label Edition really fits the bill, as BMW is only going to build and sell 500 XM Red Label PHEV SUV’s worldwide.

The special features and option list is over 45 line items long and starts with: Carbon Fiber M signature trim, M sport brakes with red painted calipers, a full Merino leather interior with red thread double stitched seams, front massaging seats, heated and cooled cup holders, an adaptive M suspension system, a gesture controlled center stack digital screen, an M sport exhaust system with powered cut outs, an M sport differential, illuminated front Kidney Grille lights, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound audio system that brings your favorite driving sound tracks to life with 20 perfectly placed acoustic speakers and 1,475 watts of amplified power.

The PHEV battery can drive the SUV for 31 miles on a full charge, the gas engine gets 14 MPG and the overall fuel economy rating is 46 MPGe. The greenhouse gas rating is a 5 and the smog rating is a 7, both out of 10. Not bad for a $216,000 738 HP luxury SUV.

The BMW XM Red Label SUV is priced $26,000 more that the base XM SUV and it’s the most powerful production M car ever made, the most expensive BMW now on sale, the first M car with a PHEV powertrain, and the first M only model since the 2 seat M1. So, if you really want one, put down your Belvedere martini, text your Crypto broker, and then call your favorite BMW dealer to buy one.

Is it worth $216 Grand? That’s up to you. It’s a very unique SUV that looks and drives differently from anything else in BMW’s lineup. How fast do you want to go? How tall do you want to stand out in the crowd? And how much extra cash do you have lying around? Top of the line high performance luxury SUV’s are for the rich and famous for sure, and that’s what a BMW XM Red Label says, that you have made it big time.

Call, click or visit your local BMW dealer for a test drive, and a Bottom Line price review, on the 2024 BMW XM Red Label PHEV SUV. And remember that the base price for a new XM starts at only $159,000. BMW – The Ultimate Driving Machine.
