SAN JOSE — The shutdown of a DMV office in San Jose could pave the way for hundreds of homes to sprout on the site, which sits near Kelley Park and Spartan Stadium.
The preliminary proposal envisions multiple residential buildings that together would contain well over 300 apartments, according to a preliminary proposal on file with San Jose city planners.
The housing development would be built at 2222 Senter Road, the site of a former DMV office the state government closed in September.
The project consists of 372 apartments that would be accommodated within three buildings, according to the preliminary proposal at San Jose City Hall.
HC Investment Associates, which is also the property owner, proposed the development.
The developer signaled in the filing that it intends to use provisions within state law SB 330 to help streamline the approval process and reduce the likelihood that the city can deploy obstacles to impede the development proposal.
HC Investment Associates is headed up by Vicky Kwoh Ching and Wu-Chung Hsiang, state government business records show.
The ownership entity is based at a Palo Alto single-family residence that Redfin estimates is valued at $9.7 million.
